Question

Is it okay for a dog or a cat to eat human food?

Are all human foods safe or unsafe for our pets?

Or are some okay, and others not so much?

How can you tell the difference?

Bowl or Bin

If the food is safe, click bowl. If it's unsafe, click bin.

Remember, blue cards are for dogs, pink cards for cats.

If you're not sure, just take a guess - some of them are really tricky!

Whenever you're ready for the first card, click the next button below.

Bowl or Bin dog card showing fizzy juice.

Is fizzy juice safe for a dog?

Sorry...

Fizzy juice is often full of sugar, which can unsettle a dog's stomach very easily. Some fizzy juice also contains artificial sweeteners, like xylitol, which is very dangerous to pets!

Better luck with the next one!

Is milk safe for a cat?

Sorry...

While some cats can stomach cow's milk in small amounts, too much may cause vomiting or diarrhoea!

Bowl or Bin dog card showing carrot

Is a carrot safe for a dog?

Sorry...

Carrots are a safe, natural snack for a dog. They're filled with fibre, and many dogs enjoy the taste (and the crunch!)

Bowl or Bin cat card showing chocolate

Is chocolate safe for a cat?

Sorry...

We all know chocolate is very dangerous for dogs, and it's dangerous for cats too. A chemical in the cocoa (the main ingredient of chocolate) is poisonous to our pets.

Bowl or Bin dog card showing peanut butter

Is peanut butter safe for a dog?

Sorry...

Peanut butter can be used as a treat for most dogs, though it's best to only give them a small amount. It's also very important to check that it's sugar-free peanut butter, and doesn't have artificial sweeteners (like in fizzy juice).

Question

What are the three main things the Home does?

Think about the animals that Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home cares for.

Where do they come from? Are some of them in need of help? Do they have a family?

Remember, they all start with the letter 'R'. Click next to see the answer.

Rescue

We care for dogs and cats who are lost, abandoned or unwanted. No matter who they are, we provide them a comfy bed, food and water, and lots of love and care.

Reunite

Sometimes dogs and cats get lost. Wherever we can, we find their family and help get them back together quickly.

Rehome

If we can't find their family, or if their family isn't able to care for them, we will find them a new Forever Home.
